Sunny, Funny, Money = Fair

As a photographer who likes to shoot in color, this time of year makes me downright shutter happy. It’s fair time, ya’ll!

I love our little fair in the hills aptly named the Mountain State Fair. It’s clean, small enough so you can run into your teenage son and his friends more than once, and best of all, it’s colorful! Throw in a vibrant blue sky with minimal cloud coverage and the fair looks magical!

Sure, there are plenty of “not so picturesque” attractions like the jumbo turkey legs with slimy puddles of grease collecting beneath the cooker; the overly friendly, bordering on creepy, game operator harassing fair-goers with his microphone; and that horse in the farm animal area that taught my young son a health ed lesson I wasn’t prepared to address on our Sunday outing. Other than that, there was lots to see and lots to shoot!

So here’s a little sampling of our day. We had fun and somehow made it out of the gates without spending a month’s salary. My older son and his friends left with change in their pockets. And we made it out without devouring that greasy jumbo turkey leg. It was a good day indeed.
