As luck would have it, my son’s class trip was just last week which meant…you guessed it…a perfect opportunity to complete my May 10 on 10 post!
Each year, the Gifted and Talented classes take a trip to a city out of state. This year, we headed to Dallas. We had a blast…all 200 of us, kids and parents combined. The only downside…the Dallas interstate construction. What are you people doing down there?! It seemed like every other exit was under construction. Grrrr! But we made it and the kids loved every minute.
So here we go!
We all stayed at the Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine, TX. If you’ve never been to one, and you have kids, I highly recommend it. It’s a hotel/waterpark/restaurant/ice cream parlor/amusement attraction/with shopping…shew!…all under one roof. There was really no reason to leave! (Here’s a photo of the water bucket that dumped every few minutes on the excited kids below.)
Mornings started with a much-needed cup of coffee in the morning and the wristband that served as our water park ticket, the key to our room and even as a credit card which was scanned for any purchases. Note the purple, sprinkle-covered doughnut in the background – the kids’ breakfast and something I’d NEVER allow them to eat at home.
The first morning, we all headed to Medieval Times for the lunch show. The kids loved it. Luckily, I brought my long lens to capture the knight in front of another school group across the arena.

The next morning was spent at the Museum of Nature and Science with a featured shark exhibit.

Nights were spent playing Magi Quest throughout the hotel. Here’s how the website explains it… “MagiQuest is an interactive live-action, role playing game where players embark on quests and adventures in an enchanted fantasy world using real magic wands to solve the mysteries of the game.” Cool, huh? Almost every child played Magi Quest each night trying to finish enough quests to earn the right to fight the dragon. Here’s my oldest taking his turn with the dragon. The dragon WAS defeated.

The last day was spent touring the new Dallas Cowboys stadium which was amazing! Price tag and all! And by price tag, I mean a billion dollars. The jumbo tron alone was roughly $40 million and is seven stories high. I mean, really! We even saw the girls trying out for the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders. (The husbands were plotting how to “accidentally” stumble into the dressing room.) And this is our tour guide explaining to some of the kids about the unique, extremely large windows.
A highlight of the tour was playing football on the field. Balls were sold at a table set up on the sidelines for $27… yep, a little money-maker for that billion dollar stadium. And of course you had to buy one if you wanted to say you played on the field.
