IHeart Faces Challenge – “Red” [Arkansas children and family photographer]

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Today I’m posting my weekly entry for a new photo challenge I’m participating in through the website iHeart Faces. The photography website focuses on the “art of capturing faces and their various emotions.” People from around the world and at all levels of photography enter photos each week. Judges select the winning photos which are displayed on Saturday.

I was so excited by this week’s theme which is “red” and is held in honor of the campaign “Go Red for Women.” The campaign was started by the American Heart Association to raise awareness about heart disease in women. I have a personal attachment to this for two reasons. One…my mother worked for the American Heart Association when I was a child. (I still remember walking in the wrong room at her office one day which was filled with those “mouth-to-mouth” resuscitation dummies! Scary!)

And two…because my mother AND older brother have both had bypass heart surgery. My brother was only 39! So heart health is something I think about daily.

I love this photo below because the girls both picked red popsicles on their own. I also love the red hat and red tongue on one girl next to the colorful pattern on her friend. But my favorite part is that the photo has two girls in it, two best friends. In a way I think it shows how women can encourage and support each other to a healthy heart!:)

I couldn’t help but to LOL when I say it. I love the toothless smile reminds me of my 6yr old, always showing her missing teeth.
