Asheville Treetops Adventure Park… (“10 on 10” photography project)

Time for another “10 on 10” photography post. New to the blog? Let me explain! Simply put, it’s a photography project started by the girls over at The Bloom Forum. A group of photographers – some in business, some as hobbyists, located across the country with one overseas – take ten or so photos throughout one day or event, documenting that day or event, and post it on the tenth of the month. We link up our blogs to create a blog circle and VOILA – a peek into our lives through a little lifestyle photography!

I use my posts to capture those everyday moments we often neglect but want to remember. Of course when a birthday rolls around, I use it then, too! This month my oldest is celebrating his…. gasp…11th birthday! Seriously. Mama wants to cry. But I won’t. And I won’t ever admit that there appears to be a tiny mustache growing on his upper lip. Or that he can almost wear my shoes. Heaven help me when his voice starts to crack.

But this year, as we get to know our new city and he gets to know his new friends, we decided to try the ropes course at Asheville Treetops Adventure Park. He invited four of his classroom buddies and we headed out on a Sunday. As expected, the boys took to the course easily. Never mind we were 30 feet above the ground overcoming obstacles that moved! It was a breeze for my son’s crew. Me? Not so much.

I took to the treetops with my 7 year-old in tow. It was his first time on a ropes course and he handled it well, much better than I did. (Apologies to the dad who picked up his son early and possibly heard a four-letter word or three come from my mouth two stories up. I cannot be responsible for what was said as I dangled precariously from a tiny rope and attempted to balance my clumsy foot on a three-inch log that swayed.) But my younger son and I overcame our fear, admitted that one part was “really scary” but felt like champs as we finished the final obstacle. By then, my older son and his friends had completed the course at least three times each.

So here’s to my growing boy…up in the treetops!
