I love to explore. Shopping? Not so much. So when it comes to traveling, I’d much rather walk the city streets, through towns and along the beaches, camera in hand, capturing all the bits and pieces around me. Coming back home with a memory card full of little “photo postcards” means more than dragging back bags full of clothes purchased at Forever 21 or H&M that I could have ordered on-line. Which is why after a recent trip to northern California, my carry-on bag for the trip home included only toys for the kids and a refrigerator magnet for our collection. Well, that and 700 digital images! For me, traveling is a continuous search for that perfect photo that really captures the area. It’s a chance to do a little street photography, fine art photography and the regular old posed stuff that proves you were actually there.
When it came to this month’s fine art challenge, I sorted through hundreds of images from a few days we spent in San Francisco and chose three. It’s kind of my “fine art” way of seeing that particular area.
So here’s the first from our walks through Chinatown which I LOVED! It was such a neat area with all the colors, the people, the different languages. And the food markets were really cool!

This one was taken from the top of Telegraph Hill at the base of Coit Tower. I learned about this area from an on-line Time Magazine article about what to see in San Francisco. After visiting the tower, we headed down the steps of Telegraph Hill, all 400 of them, through the little gardens tucked into the hill. If you’ve never done it, it’s a fun walk to see another side of the city.

This last one was taken on Alcatraz Island. I really liked the architecture of the old buildings against the blue sky. (A little tip…we thought Alcatraz tickets were sold out but were able to snag some from a bike rental shop by Ghirardelli Square that had too many.)

Now continue on in our fine art photography blog circle by visiting the talented Debbie Wibowo, D*Light Photography, New York, NY http://de-lightphotography.blogspot.com/2012/05/ignite-may-im-little-hula-baby.html
(The fine art challenge was inspired by the amazing photographer, Nichole Van who heads up a similar group.
Photographers from around the world who met through The Bloom Forum participate in both groups.)
