Field of Tears (Asheville Children’s Photographer)

The session below started out with a lesson I quickly learned as a children’s photographer on where to meet clients. I knew I wanted to photograph the family at this pretty field but it was a little difficult for directions. So I asked the mom to meet me at a nearby park. With a car full of kids. And two of those kids were ready to play. So when I got to the park and motioned for Mom to follow, the little ones had to watch from the car window as the park they thought they were about to play in slowly faded in the distance. It was like dangling a pretty present in front of their little faces and snatching it away. Little girl was not happy. At all.

We got to the field, found a pretty spot, and started taking photos. Sweet little girl was full of tears. I made a mental note to never, ever meet by a park again, unless the kids can play there, and pulled out an old standby for making smiles…humiliating myself. Mom stood behind me and dumped piles of leaves on my head. Apparently, publicly shaming the one who took your park away works. Soon she was laughing, giggling and giving me the prettiest, bright smiles.

This was a fun group to photograph with two older siblings who were great about corralling the little ones for each shot. They were all beautiful with gorgeous outfits. Mom used to own a local children’s clothing boutique and you can tell she has great taste.

The session ended well…all smiles, no tears…and I think I earned back Little Girl’s respect. I hope. But either way, they took some amazing photos. And then they got to play at the park.
